Course Summary

This course offers one of the fastest routes to achieving a professional accounting qualification. After three years you will hold an honours degree in accounting and in addition the course currently attracts full exemptions from CAP1 examinations with Chartered Accountants Ireland (CAI) and generous exemptions from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and Certified Public Accountants (CPA).

This course is highly commended by all of the professional accountancy bodies.

The key skills built into the course will mean you are well-grounded and prepared for a career in accountancy, or further study:

  • Business finance, accounting and reporting

  • Business law, economics and human resource management

A minimum of two C3’s at higher level is required. Mature applicants will be interviewed and assessed on an individual basis.  The study of accounting at leaving certificate is not required as all subjects will be delivered from first principles. Median CAO points in 2017 were 382

The majority of graduates from the BA in Accounting will progress to a professional accounting qualification. Most of the recent graduates are either on master’s programmes; some sponsored by employers or are in training contracts with local and national accounting and consultancy companies.

Successful graduates of this programme are exempt from the following professional examinations:

  • ALL CAP1 examinations with Chartered Accountants Ireland
  • 9 of the total 13 examinations with ACCA
  • ALL examinations up to Professional 2 Stage with CPA (Certified Public Accountant)
  • Certificate and Operational Level with CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants)

No other University or Institute of Technology in Ireland offer more exemptions from these professional examinations.
