Peer Mentoring Programme:

Our Peer Mentoring Programme gives new students the opportunity to create networks with fellow students already in the Institute in the same discipline. Mentors will pass on the information needed to settle and succeed in college life. These mentors help first years to access the information they need to begin their studies with confidence.

Mentors are available to answer basic queries via email, text message or phone call for the duration of the mentoring programme. They will give you important information on the supports available to you and can answer practical questions about timetables, room locations or even just where to buy coffee!!

Student Profiling Tool

Every student will be given the opportunity to complete the Student Profiling Tool. The Student Profiler will give students a better understanding of their strengths and challenges when it comes to learning as they start on their journey here at IT Sligo. It will break down skills to support students in being successful in their studies. Students will receive a report at the end of the session providing them with instant guidance and contact details for support staff. Many students have completed this short survey to find they have a learning difficulty which went undiagnosed up to this point and find they can now get the help and support they need to excel to their full potential.

Students’ Union

When you register at the Institute, you automatically become a member of the IT Sligo Student Union (ITSSU). It exists to represent you, the student, on a range of issues throughout your college experience and sits on various committees relating to student welfare, education and recreation.

ITSSU is located on the bottom floor of the Student Centre and is a lively social spot for students to visit and receive valuable information about student rights, health, different clubs and societies and, most importantly, confidential advice.

Student Representative Council

At the beginning of the academic year, in-class elections will take place to elect representatives from each class to sit on the Student Representative Council.

Representatives will be required to be the eyes and ears of the Union in the classroom and represent students for the forthcoming academic year.
