The Six Sigma Yellow Belt certificate course is primarily aimed at those within an organisation who wish to develop a foundation in the principles of Lean Six Sigma and the DMAIC problem-solving approach. This course will demonstrate the potential of using Six Sigma tools and methodologies within an organisation. It is aimed at those who are new to Six Sigma including operators, technicians, supervisors and managers.
- Course content includes industry examples from medical device, pharma, food, manufacturing, healthcare and the service sectors.
- Over 100 practice questions and online quizzes included in the course.
- The course includes Minitab – the statistical and process improvement software used by many leading employers. Access to Minitab software is provided to students to use during the course at no additional charge.
All of the course is taken online with one live lecture each week. These lectures are also recorded so you can watch them anytime at your convenience.
Key Course Information
The Six Sigma Yellow belt aims to provide learners with an understanding of the tools and techniques of quality that are used in the attainment of a six sigma quality environment. The principle goal of Six Sigma is to reduce variation in the process and improve quality.
Through practical examples and exercises, learners will become proficient in the use of the basic problem-solving techniques used to monitor and control processes. Topics include: Six Sigma Quality, DMAIC problem-solving process, Seven Tools of Quality, Lean tools and Statistical techniques to help analyse your process.

There is no prerequisite to study this programme. Applicants are expected to have passed Leaving Certificate or equivalent in maths due to the Statistics covered in the course syllabus.

A growing number of organisations in manufacturing, medical device, pharmaceutical, food, healthcare and the service sectors are looking to fill a wide variety of positions with candidates who are adept at applying the principles of Lean, OpEx and Six Sigma.
Obtaining your Six Sigma Yellow Belt is the first step on your journey. After completing the Yellow Belt, you can progress onto a Six Sigma Green Belt award. There are a number of career paths available, as the Lean, OpEx and Six Sigma tools can be very effective in improving business processes in a variety of different industries and sectors.
By completing the Six Sigma Yellow Belt, you may wish to progress to a ‘Certificate in Lean Sigma Green Belt’ award from IT Sligo by completing an additional two modules - one of which is a work-based project. There are three modules on the Green Belt and you will be exempt from Six Sigma 1 after completing your Yellow Belt. The three Green Belt modules are as follows:
- Six Sigma 1 - You will complete this as part of your Yellow Belt
- Six Sigma 2 - Statistical Control (Green Belt)
- Six Sigma 3 - Project (Green Belt)
